Tutor Charged With Child Abuse Of 7-Year-Old

A tutor at a Baltimore, Maryland, school was fired and charged with multiple counts of child abuse after one of his students got a fractured jaw and two missing teeth.

The 7-year-old, Trayvon Grayson's mother said that her child had suffered from the injuries after the tutor, Timothy Randall Korr, threw him against the wall because he was acting unruly.

The mother, Lateekqua Jackson, told CNN affiiliate WBFF that, "I looked in the ambulance and there's my son, his face big, mouth bloody. I turned to the man, I said, 'this isn't a regular restraint'."

The incident happened at City Springs Elementary School.

Korr was an employee of the Baltimore Curriculum Project, which is a program that works with charter schools around the city. Korr told police that he removed Grayson from the classroom for misbehaving and that he lost his footing and he hit himself against the wall.

Grayson's mother doesn't believe his explanation. "He can't throw himself into the wall and fracture his jaw and lose his teeth, he's only 7 years old. He's so small he's not going to do the damage to himself."

Baltimore City Police detectives decided to investigate the incident. Grayson was examined by the hospital and found out that he was suffering trauma to his head. The police got a video from the school that showed that Korr had abused Grayson.

Korr got charged with first and second degree assault, first and second degree child abuse, neglect of a minor, and reckless endangerment.

It was not certain whether Korr had retained an attorney.

Executive vice president of the Baltimore Curriculum Project, Larry Schugam, said that the incident had made him "heartsick."

"This is an unusual, isolated incident for our schools, and we are participating in a thorough investigation into what exactly happened, the employment of the one employee involved has been terminated." Schugam told CNN.
