Movie Preview: Hacksaw Ridge
"Hacksaw Ridge," which comes out in theaters this Friday, November 4, is based off an inspiring true story of the former army solider Desmond Doss. Desmond was born in 1919 and fought in World War 2 and in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.
Due to his wits, determination, and skill, he single-handedly saved 75 wounded soldiers while in constant fire in the Battle of Okinawa. Doss refused to touch a firearm because of his religious beliefs, which was a conflict between his peers, leadership, and drill master. His courage and selflessness didn’t go unnoticed as he was awarded, by President Truman, the Medal of Honor in 1945.
This extraordinary story is produced by Mel Gibson. Andrew Garfield, most famously known as Spider Man, plays the part of Desmond Doss. Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, two of the leading film review websites, gave "Hacksaw Ridge" ratings of 93 and 67, respectively.
From watching the trailer and hearing the background story, I think it’s a must see. If you’re in to inspiring, heartfelt, and military movies, then this is definitely for you.
