Cairo High School Naval Junior ROTC Weekly News for October 24th – 28th

After school practice will follow the regular schedule this week for the orienteering, armed and unarmed exhibition, and rifle team. Color Guard will not practice this week. The last day of practice for the drill team this week will be on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. All practice types will be held from 3:30pm-5:30pm at the NJROTC building.

On Saturday, October, 22nd, the drill team competed in the Joint Service Drill Meet in Bainbridge, Georgia. The Cairo NJROTC placed 1st in personnel Inspection, 2nd in unarmed drill, and 3rd in armed drill. The color guard placed 4th in the AFROTC color guard drill. Members in the color guard were Cadet Lieutenant Commander, Melissa Cowart, Cadet Lieutenant Gage Landrum, Cadet Seaman Apprentice Marcus Nichols, and Cadet Seaman Julius Ingram. Cadet Cowart and Ingram were chosen for the most outstanding drill commanding officer (1st place, Cadet Cowart) and individual drill (3rd place, Cadet Ingram).

The NJROTC unarmed basic drill team and the color guard will be performing in the Cairo Homecoming Parade on Thursday, October, 27. All cadets attending the parade will need to bring and change into their uniforms in on Thursday, the day of the parade, and stay after school. A school bus will be provided for the students to ride and will leave the school campus at 4:00pm. The parade begins at 5 pm outside the First United Methodist Church and will continue down Broad Street; students may either ride back on the bus or join their parents after the parade.
