Jim Carrey Faces Lawsuit Against Former Ex-Girlfriends Mother
Moviegoers have not seen much of comedian and actor Jim Carey recently, but the actor’s lack of current leading roles may be the least of his current worries. Carrey is currently facing charges related to the death of his former girlfriend of two years, Cathriona White, who passed away in 2015. The case was brought up by White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman, who blamed Carrey for giving White three different types of sexually transmitted diseases and the medication that she had overdosed on, causing her death.
Sweetman alleged that Carey was responsible for giving White the mixture of Ambien, Percocet, Propranolol and Zofran which caused her death. White was reportedly taking this combination of sedatives and sleep aids to help her with the depression and anxiety she suffered as a result of her recent diagnoses with three diseases. Sweetman blamed Carey f or passing these diseases to her daughter. According to radaronline.com, “White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman, sued the actor, 58, shortly after Cathriona’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, filed a similar suit. Burton claimed Carrey passed these said diseases onto White, alleging that the actor tested positive for STDs in January 2013, under the name “Jose Lopez.”
The actor recently counter-sued Sweetman, claiming that it was White’s choice to take the medicine.
Carey pointed to text messages with White, in which she threatened to commit suicide due to the stress of their breakup. Some of these messages have been revealed to the public.
