Albany Child Struck by Car in Deadly Accident
On September 16, 2016, four children were hit by a car between North Mock, and Leonard Avenue in Albany, Georgia. One child was killed on the spot, two were seriously injured, and one suffered just a few cuts and bruises.
Nine-year-old Antonio Shed Jr., his six-year-old sister Te-unna Shed, and two classmates, 10-year-old Jahkara Arnold and seven-year-old Jahlana Arnold, were walking to Turner Elementary School on Friday morning at around 7 am when the accident occurred. Before the crossing guard came out to help the children cross the road, 26-year-old Montavious Johnson hit them, killing Antonio and seriously injuring the little boy’s sister Te-unna and one of his classmates, Jahkara. Johnson said he did not see the children. He also stayed at the scene to show his support and to show he was sorry about what happened.
Jahlana escaped with only a few scratches and bruises and was sent home after being treated. It’s still an ongoing investigation, but there are no charges being filed. Neighbors of Antonio and his sister Te-unna started a memorial on the corner where the horrible accident happened. People who didn’t even know the family came down to show their support and to raise money for the family. Others left footballs, a teddy bear, and balloons.
