Editorial: Dangers of Distracted Driving
According to the Triple A Foundation, 80% of drivers find distracted driving a serious problem which makes them feel less safe on the road. Distracted driving can cause accidents and can lead to about 5,000 deaths every year. Eating and drinking, talking on the phone or using social media such as Snapchat, Facebook, Twiter, Instagram etc.. are examples of distracted driving. Some people even go as far as playing a game called Pokemon go.
A week or two ago, a guy got killed from driving and being on Snapchat at the same time. Driving and trying to record yourself on Snapchat or any social media isn’t worth getting your life taken. Like I said, Pokemon go is a big one. I’ve heard that Pokemon go has caused quite a few people to crash. According to the Cnn news, a man was accused of crashing his vehicle into a parked police car in Baltimore while playing Pokemon Go.
I went around Yesterday, September 8th,2016, and asked five high school students whether they text and drive or eat and drive. I also asked whether they use social media and drive or play games such as Pokemon Go while driving. Every person I asked do them all except use Pokemon Go and drive. I’m not going to say I talked them out of it, but I most definitely talked to them about it because I wouldn’t want find out they got in a wreck due to eating, texting, or using social while driving.
Being on social media while driving isn’t worth receiving a hospital bill or having someone pick out a casket for you. Eating while driving isn’t worth it either; instead, wait until you get home or eat in or at the restaurant. Texting while driving is not acceptable! I’m pretty sure that text isn’t more important than your life. Stay safe on the road, kids!
