4DX Movie Theaters: The Next Big Thing?
South Korean Company CJ Group has created a technology called 4DX which goes beyond the simple visual experience and works with all of the audience’s five senses. South Korean moviegoers have been able to experience this new technology for the past few years, but it is now making its way to the States.
In these theaters, the chairs move around and shake, and the seats are also programmed to blow air and water on the audience. This technology can even reproduce certain smells in order to enhance the audience experience of the movie.
New York City is home to one of the nation's first 4DX movie theaters. On March 25, 2016, its first 4DX movie, Batman v. Superman was screened there. However, a review posted to engadget.com described the experience as "an abusive amusement park ride that went on way too long." The writer also complained that ticket prices were over $28.
What do you think, readers? Would you want to see a film in "4D"?
